Mirror Images are produced through a collaboration between Dotty Morgan and Paul Lundquist, artist blacksmith. After Dotty draws the design and, using black paper and scissors, turns it into a silhouette, a digital photograph is taken of the image and transferred to a computer. From the computer file, a laser machine cuts the image from 1/16" steel. Paul sandblasts the frame, welds on the brackets to hold the mirror in place and, finally, paints it.
Standard mirror sizes are 14" x 22" and 7" x 11", painted matte black. The Ivy Mirror features stand-away ivy vine which is hand painted in natural green colors to resemble the plant as it grows. The frame and mountains are matte black Other sizes and colors are possible for any mirror frame.
The samples shown are our current designs. As new designs are developed, they are added to the line. Additional uses for the designs include lamp shade, fire screen, room divider and window panel decorations. We invite inquiries about these and other possibilities.
Another aspect of Dotty's work is cloth. Her formal education is in the natural sciences, but somewhere along the way, she began to notice the people around her and the interesting and often funny things they do. She began to combine her sewing skills with people-watching and the results have been quite entertaining and surprising to her.
"I don't always have a clear design in mind when I start a doll as each one seems to have a life of its own and dictates to me who or what she/he might be!"
